A Study on Public Transit Accessibility using an Extended G2SFCA Model based on Gross Floor Area
2. 요약(Abstract)
Urban accessibility measurement faces three critical challenges: a single-facility focus with inconsistent capacity indicators, the binary evaluation of temporal accessibility policies, and the gap between potential network-based measures and actual travel behavior. These limitations are addressed in this study by comparing scheduled accessibility based on General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) data with realized accessibility derived from Origin-Destination (OD) data in Daejeon, South Korea. The Gaussian Two-Step Floating Catchment Area (G2SFCA) method is utilized across three time periods. To enable a comprehensive multi-type accessibility assessment, Gross Floor Area (GFA) is introduced as a standardized capacity measure that integrates 11,542 locations across five urban functions: work, education, healthcare, shopping, and transportation. Empirical analysis reveals a strong correspondence between the methods (Spearman’s ρ > 0.90; Pearson’s r = 0.917–0.998). These results validate GTFS for spatial prioritization while uncovering systematic temporal variation in realization rates: 100% during the morning peak, 84% during midday, and 94% during the evening peak. A critical finding indicates a midday spatial reversal where schedules optimized for peak commutes oversupply western and eastern residential areas while undersupplying northern industrial zones during off-peak hours. Ultimately, this diagnostic framework demonstrates that OD-based analysis is indispensable for uncovering operational inefficiencies and spatial inequities that schedule-based models fundamentally fail to capture. This study offers planners cost-effective tools for evidence-based decision-making while highlighting the necessity for temporal calibration and spatial reallocation in service design to align transit provision with actual travel demand patterns.
