Hyeokju Yeon and Jaehyuck Lim Finish Top 3 at the ET3 Challenge
We are proud to congratulate Hyeokju Yeon of TOPS and Jaehyuck Lim of TUPA, Ph.D. students at the KAIST Cho Chun Shik Graduate School of Mobility, on taking 2nd and 3rd place in the 2026 ET3 Challenge, the IEEE ITSS Automated Vehicle Trajectory Modeling Challenge.
The challenge is run by the IEEE ITSS Emerging Transportation Technology Testing (ET3) Technical Committee as an open benchmark for modeling how automated vehicles follow other cars. Each team received the full 30-second trajectory of a lead vehicle and the first 10 seconds of the automated vehicle behind it, then had to predict the next 20 seconds. Predictions were scored on accuracy, safety, and comfort, and two IMPACTs students finished in the top three of the 28 teams on the final leaderboard.
- 2nd Place – Hyeokju Yeon, TOPS Lab (advisor: Prof. Kitae Jang)
- 3rd Place – Jaehyuck Lim, TUPA Lab (advisor: Prof. Inhi Kim)
- Challenge – Automated Vehicle Trajectory Modeling Challenge 2026, IEEE ITSS ET3 Technical Committee
- Next – Both students will present their work at the TRB Annual Meeting 2027
Congratulations, Hyeokju and Jaehyuck! We look forward to your presentations at TRB 2027.
